Natures Cough and Cold Remedy
It was 52 degrees and crispy outside this morning. A nice welcome from the hot days we have been having. I spy the red, orange, and yellow leaves on a nearby tree and am looking forward to the seasons morph into fall - my favorite season of the year. If you live in an area where you don't get to see this miraculous beautiful change, I urge you to take a road trip at least once to a place you can witness this firsthand. The hottest parts of summer and the coldest parts of winter are my least favorite, but the changes that come in-between of shedding and regrowth are a wonderful sight to behold. I've been fortunate to live my life thus far in states where I could enjoy this.
With the change of seasons, numerous people find themselves getting a cough and/or cold. Being a person that doesn't like to take over-the-counter medications (though I have on a rare occasion), I always try to turn to natural remedies first. Luckily, this simple yet effective remedy usually does the trick for me.
Ingredients:
Instructions:
- Take one tablespoon of raw honey with a sprinkle of the cinnamon.
- Then One tablespoon of the squeeze of the lemon.
- Repeat 3 times daily.
Heres why this works...
Raw honey, unlike commercial honey that has had most of the bee pollen which is considered to be one of the most nutritionally complete foods to us, still has the bee pollen which is high in amino acid, antimicrobial agents and full of antioxidants. Raw honey is unheated, unprocessed, and unpasteurized - this is how it is able to keep all of its nutrients intact as they are not destroyed by the processing. Manaku honey, in particular, has been used for centuries as a natural antibiotic. Raw honey has a whole list of health benefits including lowering blood pressure, relieving nausea, improving diabetes and circulation, heal wounds, is a natural prebiotic and can help cure urinary tract infections in manuka form, soothes sore throats, and this list could continue on with its moisturizing properties.
Cinnamon is a natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting and potential cancer and heart disease-protecting spice making it one of the most beneficial you can take. It also contains a small number of essential vitamins and minerals your body needs including vitamin E, niacin, vitamin B6, magnesium, potassium, zinc, vitamin K, iron, manganese, calcium, potassium, and copper.
Lemons are a great source of fiber and Vitamin C, this is what helps the most with a cold or soothing the throat. They are high in antioxidants helping to eliminate your body of free radicals and keep your body free of infections caused by bacteria or infections. Lemons also contain compounds like hesperidin and d-limonene, which have both been shown to have cancer-preventing properties. Just another perk of adding them to your diet. They also contain vitamins and minerals our bodies need.
The next time you start to get a cold or a sore throat, I hope you try this natural remedy first before those nasty over-the-counter symptom coverups that are actually there to help you feel better yes, but by masking your symptoms while your body heals itself. If you do, hop back here, and let me know how it worked for you.
Peace, M. Marie
